Wednesday Dec. 10,2008 Mr. Norman L. Long, age 76 of Dalton and formerly Gordon County died at8:10 AM, Wednesday, December 10,2008 at the residence of his daughter following several months of declining health. Norman was born in Gordon County, November 29, 1932 a son of the late Hubert G. Long and Willie Mae Ingle Long. Also he was preceded in death by his bothers, Wayne Long and Ray Long and a sister Mary Jane. Norman was a prisoner- of- war for over 27 months during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion, the V.F.W. and Oothcaloga Masonic Lodge # 154 of Calhoun. He was a retired employee of Shaw Industries. He was a Member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church. Norman is survived by a son, Alvin Long and his wife Pat of Calhoun; a daughter, Vickie Patania and her husband, Michael of Calhoun; Companion, Sarah Gallman of Dalton, two brothers, Curtis Long of Austell, and Johnny Long of Calhoun; five sisters, June Duggar and her husband Ed of Rome, Margaret Dean and her husband Lamar of Calhoun, Paulette Bagley and her husband Ronnie of Gainesville, Margo Johnson and her husband Don and Maxine West of Missouri; four grandchildren, Leslie Mauldin, Niki Smith and her husband Billy, Tiffani Patania, and Ryan Patania; three great-grandchildren, Victoria Roper, Annabelle Roper, and Lance Mauldin. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday December 13th. from the Chapel of the Thomas funeral home with Rev. Donnie Hudgins and Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating. Interment will follow in the Sugar Valley Baptist Church cemetery with Full Military Rites accorded by the Dalton American Legion. Nephews will serve as pallbearers and are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:30 Saturday. Bud Owens will have charge of the Music.
