Mrs. Nellie Lou Hicks age 90 of Calhoun, died Thursday morning December 24th. in Redmond Regional Medical Center following a long battle with Renal Failure
Nellie Lou was born in Gordon County on October 19, 1919 daughter of the late Willie Chappell and Nellie Magdalene Gaines Barrett and was a lifelong resident. She was an active member of the Echota Baptist Church and dearly loved to travel after her retirement from Echota Cotton Mills. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Owen Nelson Hicks in 1986, a brother; George Barrett and a nephew; Ben Barrett.
Survivors include Helen Hicks and Van Goble and her husband Roger of Calhoun, two grandchildren; Chap Goble of Calhoun and Shanda and Ryan LaForge of Atlanta, a three great- grandchildren; Owen Goble of Calhoun, Elle and Jake LaForge of Atlanta and her niece Wendy Smith of Naples, Italy., Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday December 26th from the Echota Baptist Church with Rev. Don Walters and Dr. Bert Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow in the Chandler Cemetery.
Pallbearers serving include Jack Lyle, Terry Davis, Michael Langston, Martin Vaughn, Harry and Sam Harwell, Marvin McBee and John Lord and they are asked to meet at the Thomas Funeral Home at 12:45 P.M. Saturday at which time Mrs. Hicks will be carried to the Church to lie instate and receive visitors from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M.
