Myrtle Vandergriff Barnes Presley, age 86, of Calhoun. Died Friday December 10th at her residence.
Myrtle was born in Gilmer County January 17, 1924. Daughter of the late Benson Reed and Mamie Irea Cantrell Vandergriff. She attended Philadelphia Baptist Church and prior to her retirement was employed by Lockheed Aircraft. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Tony Barnes, a brother, B.R. Vandergriff, and two sisters; Janette Silvey and Doris Fuller.
Survivors include a special daughter in law and caregiver, Jimmie Lou Barnes of Calhoun. One brother, Victor Vandergriff of McCaysville. Sister, Margaret Griffey of Chattanooga. Two grandchildren; Johnny Barnes and his wife Theri of Ranger and Lisa Childress and her husband Rocky. Six great grandchildren; Josh Barnes, Ashlyn Barnes, Erin Barnes, John Barnes, Chloe Childress and Bradley Childress. Along with a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday December 12th at 2pm from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home. With Rev. Tim McCulley officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery. Pallbearers serving include; Rocky Childress, Gary Goble, Harold Dodd, Darrell Walker, Tommy Burnette, Jordan Tatum, Ricky Young, and David Griffey.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 4 until 7pm.
