Melvin Fred Wells, Sr., age 70 of Resaca, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2018 in Kindred Hospital of Rome.
Melvin was born on December 24, 1947 in Whitfield County to the late Donnie Smith Wells and Nellie Mae Ray Wells. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church of Plainville, and the Plainville Masonic Lodge F&AM #364. Melvin was also a Veteran of the United States Army. Prior to retirement he was employed by Bailey’s Auto Repair.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Patricia Wells of Resaca; three sons, Daniel David Wells, Sr. and his wife Michelle of Smithville, TN, Timothy Fredrick Wells, Sr. and his wife Patty of Sugar Valley, and Melvin Fred Wells, Jr. and his wife Amy of Adairsville; daughter, Melanie Recia Wells; two brothers, Larry Wells and Robert Wells and his wife Kathy; sister, Carolyn Wells; six grandchildren, Timothy Wells, Jr., Sylvia Wells, Danny Wells, Jr., Charlee Wells, Samuel Wells, and Hannah Wells; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, March 15th at 1 PM from New Town Baptist Church with Reverend David Ray officiating. Kenny Herron will have charge of music. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery with full military honors and masonic rites.
Pallbearers serving will be Tim Wells, Jr., Sam Wells, Danny Wells, Jr., Andy Morgan, Andrew Lockhart, and Thomas Pass. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Plainville Masonic Lodge F&AM #364.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5 PM until 9 PM at Thomas Funeral Home. Melvin will lie in state on Thursday from 12 PM until the funeral hour at 1 PM at New Town Baptist Church.
