Max Donald Sexton, age 75 of Calhoun died at 11:35 AM, Saturday, August 24 at Gordon Hospital.
Max was born in Gordon County September 24, 1937, son of the late Everett Sexton and Ruby Allen Sexton. He was a lifetime resident of Gordon County, a graduate of Belwood High School and, was formerly employed at Harbison-Walker. He was of the Church of God Faith and loved God.
Max served in the US Army, Sp/4, as a military policemen. His service was in Paris, France for 18 months during the Berlin Wall Era and the Cuban Missile Crisis. Later he served in the Georgia National Guard for 3 years.
Max was a wonderful husband, dad, and PawPaw. He loved his family and enjoyed being with them. He loved to do yard work and gardening. He loved traveling with his wife and sharing his love of history with his grandchildren. He longed to return to France but was happy to settle for a spot by a pond while his family fished. He will be sadly missed.
Max is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mozelle Sexton; three children, Rita Lewis and her husband, Jimmy of Roswell, Anita Melillo and her husband Tony of Colorado, Darren Sexton and his wife, Carly of Calhoun, 6 grandchildren, Will and Krysten Lewis of Athens, Allen Lewis, Tyler Barker, Angela Barker, Kristan Barker and Gracy Sexton; one brother, Julius Sexton of Calhoun and one sister, Joan Harkins and he husband Jesse of Gainesville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 28 at the College Street Church of God with the Reverends Jamie Chant and Keith Reed officiating. Burial will be in Fain Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 PM, Tuesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Will Lewis, A.J. Lewis, Tyler Barker, Luke Harkins, Jonathan Sexton, and Marvin Woody. Honorary pallbearers are Claude Allen, Clyde Allen, Gene Holbrook, Wayne Howell and Mike Cross and Tommy Pierce. They are asked to meet at the church at 1:45 PM, Wednesday.
