Mr. Matthew Owen McGowan, age 42 passed away Wednesday October 3rd. at his family residence in Calhoun with his family at his side after a two year battle with stomach cancer at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
He was born on Aug. 1, 1965 in New York City son of Margie and Frank McGowan and was an avid dirt biker, chessmaster, history buff, and Yankee fan. A graduate electronics engineer, he designed, built and maintained high-end recording equipment. He was previously a resident of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., Athens, Ga. and Atlanta. He had a great sense of humor and love of life and will be missed by many friends and relatives.
Survivors include his parents Maragie Johnson McGowan of Calhoun, his father; Frank McGowan of Yorktown, New York, his sister and brother-in-law; Patricia and Russell McBee of Dacula, Ga., a brother; Kyle McGowan of Athens,Ga. and nephews; Conner and Tyler McBee; and an aunt and uncle; Bobbie and J.D. Anderson of Calhoun.
A Memorial services will celebrate his life at 113 Valley Circle 4:00 P.M. Sunday October 7th. 2007 with Dr. Brian Clark and Rev. Stuart Lance officiating.
Craig Atkinson and Rebecca Owens will have charge of the music.
Green Plants will be accepted or donations to the American Cancer Society.
