Masie Jean Gowens, age 72 of Fairmount, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Masie was born on June 18, 1943 in Whitfield County to the late George Stephenson and Bessie Owenby Stephenson. She was a member of the Lion’s Club, former member of the Sonora Eastern Star and loved to garden. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Stephenson; sisters, Agnes Brown and Virginia Sheilds; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Anglee and Bo Hicks.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Harvey Gowens of Fairmount; two sons, Tracy Gowens and his wife Keila of Calhoun and Tony Gowens and his wife Ramona of Calhoun; two grandchildren, Hannah Gowens and Allison Gowens; brothers and sisters, Louise Young of O’Fallon, IL, Paul Stephenson, Don Stephenson, Virgie Blackwell and her husband Truett of Morganton, GA, and Pat Robertson and her husband Don of Ringgold; brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, Ed Gowens of Calhoun, Marvis and Bob Blaylock of the Sonoraville community, and David and Darlene Hicks of Dalton.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, October 24th at 1:00 PM from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with the Reverend James Shope officiating. Burial will be Chandler Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5 until 7 PM at Thomas Funeral Home.
