Mrs. Mary H. Thomas, age 85 of Calhoun, died Sunday January 4th. 2009 in Gordon Health Care.
Mary was born in Gordon County on Nov. 21, 1923 daughter of the late Benjamin Harrison Hall and Belle Stewart Hall and had been a lifelong resident. She was a Baptist and prior to her retirement she was Employed by Astro Dye, The American Red Cross and was former secretary of the Gordon County Historical Society. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Joe G. Thomas, brothers and sisters; Frances Davis, Ione Hall, Don Hall, Jack Hall, a daughter; Rugh Etheredge and a grandson; Bryson M. Etheredge.
Survivors include one son and his wife; David L. and Melissa Thomas of Calhoun, one daughter; Glennese Thomas of Calhoun, two brothers and their wives; Howard and Jewell Hall of Calhoun and Lee and Lillie Mae Hall also of Calhoun, two sisters; Essie Holsomback and her husband Gene of Calhoun and Inez Bramlett of Ellijay. 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildred.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday January 6th from the Chapel of the Thomas Funeral Home with Dr. Bert Vaughn and Rev. Jack Cole officiating. Interment will follow in the Fain cemetery.
Pallbearers serving include Jody and Dyland Hyde, Jake Thomas, Joe Etheredge, Clint Thomas and Austin Fain and they are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday.
Janice Steelman and Judith Arnold will have charge of the music.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 until 9:00 P.M. Monday evening.
In addition to flowers the family request that contributions be made to the American Red Cross.
