Mary Midgett Meiggs, 92, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2015. Born in Elizabeth City, NC, she was the daughter of Evans James and Nancy Williams Midgett and was the wife of the late Lem Sawyer Meiggs for 73 years. Mrs. Meiggs had recently lived in Calhoun, Georgia to be close to her daughter, Beth Grubbs. Mrs. Meiggs was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Elizabeth City and taught Sunday-School for many years in the Junior Department.
Mary Meiggs is survived by a son, David Bertrand Meiggs and his wife Esther, two daughters, Bonnie Meiggs Campbell and Beth Meiggs Grubbs and her husband Brady, seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Along with her parents and husband, Mrs. Meiggs was preceded in death by her daughter, Tiffney Meiggs Lee, grandson, Lemuel Wayne Campbell, granddaughter, Lisa Dudley Branch, ten brothers and a sister.
Mrs. Meiggs will be remembered as always being “full of life” with her ready smile, quick wit, love of flowers, music and dance. She was known as a very gracious and able host, always willing to open her house for any occasion.
A funeral service will take place Saturday, August 29 at 2:00 p.m. at Twiford Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 p.m. -2:00p.m.
