Mary Watts Blalock

Mary Watts Blalock, age 80, of Gordon County, passed away Thursday December 29th at her residence, following several years of declining health. Mary was born October 16th, 1936, daughter of the late Herbert Sylvester Watts and Jessie Wells Watts. She was a retired nurse and member of the Calhoun First Baptist Church where she worked as a Mission Friends leader for many years. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Herbert Wells Watts of Fairmount, GA and her sister, Willa Watts Phillips of Greenville, SC. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, C.J. Blalock; son, Mitchell Blalock and his wife, Tanya; daughter, Tammy Blalock Johnson and her husband, Tyron; one brother, John Michael Watts; 4 grandchildren, Brooke Johnson, Brandi Johnson Brumlow, Swayze Johnson, and J.C. Blalock; and two great-grandchildren, Mitt and Elle Brumlow. The family would like to give special thanks to her caregivers, Barbara Scott and Rita York, and the entire Homespun Hospice team. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday January 3rd at 11am at the Calhoun First Baptist Church with Dr. John Barber and Dr. Bert Vaughn officiating. Lance Cole will be in charge of the music. Interment will follow in the Haven of Rest Cemetery with Daniel Brown in charge of graveside rites. Pallbearers serving will include Sam Thomas, Sam Harwell, Marion Broome, Baxter Burke, Swayze Johnson, and J.C. Blalock. Honorary pallbearers will be Annette Thomas, Shirley Harwell, Dot Broome, Beverly Burke, Barbara Scott, Rita York, Lana Crump, Tommy and Lynn Blalock. The family will receive friends Monday evening January 2nd from 5 until 8pm at Thomas Funeral Home.
