Mary Jean Barton

Jean Barton, age 86 of Calhoun, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2017 at her residence. Jean was born on December 1, 1930 in Calhoun to the late James Washington Barton and Sudie Keys. In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by her husband John Troy “Corky” Barton and a brother, Talmadge Barton. Jean was a member of the Calhoun First Methodist Church, Gordon County historical society, past-president of the Gordon hospital volunteers, member of Sequoyah Garden Club, and the Gordon County beautification committee, she was also an avid bridge player, book reader and gardener. She is survived by two sons, John T. Barton Jr and his wife Pam of Libertyville, Il and Jim Barton of Maple Park, Il; two daughters, Debbie Barton of Tampa, Fl and Melinda Barton of Dalton, Ga; two grandchildren; Jeff and Troy Barton. Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home at 11:00 AM with Reverend Ed Archer officiating guest speakers include Jim Lay and John Barton. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery with Steve Barton, John Troy Barton Jr, Jeff Barton, Troy Barton and Neal Barton serving as pallbearers.
