Monday, September 28, 2009 Mrs. Mary Messer Abbott, 90, died peacefully at home on Saturday, September 26th, following an extended illness Mrs. Abbott was a native of Rydal, Ga., and had lived most of her life in North Georgia in Gordon and Murray Counties. She moved to Perry in 2002. She was a former public School teacher, postmaster and business owner in Carters, Ga. She was a charter member of the Oakman Baptist Church, where she served for many years as a Sunday School Teacher, Pianist , and Choir Director. She was preceded in death by her parents, L.S. and Nena Stone, her sister; Estelle Stone, her first husband, Ralph Messer, and her second husband, Jack Abbott. She is survived by her sons, Robert Messer and his wife Marguerite and David Messer of Perry, Ga., stepdaughter; Starr Rowell of Ft.Gaines, Ga., granddaughters, Elizabeth Mitchum of Perry and Susannah Kofskey of New Albany, Ohio, step-grandchildren, Dan Gay of Ft. Gaines, GA., and Camille Worley of Dothan, Alabama, great-grandchildren; Lauren and Claire flowers of Perry and Ales and Maddie Kofskey of New Albany, Ohio. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday September 29th. at the Oakman Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Fain Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Watson-Hunt Funeral Home in Perry, Ga. from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Sunday September 27th and from 6:00 P.M.until 8:00 P.M. Monday September 28th. at the Thomas Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to the Heatr of Georgia Hospice, 1120 Morningside Drive, Perry , Georgia 31069 Thomas Funeral Home has charge of the local arrangements.
