Marvin Eugene Parker

Marvin E. (Gene) Parker, age 79, of Dalton and formerly of Resaca, passed away Sunday March 8th in the Hamilton Medical Center. Gene was born May 17, 1935 in Resaca, son of the late William Virgil (Cap) Parker and Jessie C. Brackett Parker. He was a long time member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Resaca. After returning from service in the United States Army, Gene was employed with Candlewick Yarn/Shaw Industries Plant #6 and retired as supervisor with 47 years of service. He enjoyed the outdoors fishing, hunting, working on the farm and vacations with his loving family and friends. Besides his parents Gene was preceded in death by his brother, Claude Parker and two sisters, Irene Ward and Ruby Walraven. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Debbie Walden Parker, two sons; David Parker and Wendell Parker and his wife Kaye, one step-daughter; Joy Sneed. Three grandchildren; Latosha Thornton and her husband Danny, Katie Parker and Matthew Parker, Two great-grandchildren; Availey Thornton and Trace Thornton. Two brothers; Johnny Parker and his wife Glenice and Kenneth Parker and his wife Paula, five sisters; Ada Silvers, Ruth Fox, Thelma Schnitgspahn, Sue Bone, and Avie Autry and her husband Troy. Very special friends the Jerry and Mary Wyatt family, Andy Nuckolls, Mike, Vonnie and Ricky McBee. A number of nieces, nephews and cousin also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday March 11th at 2pm from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers serving include; Larry Ward, Dan Fox, Mitch Talley, Christopher Talley, Jason Chambers, Trevor Bone and Jimmy Goble. These men are ask to meet at the funeral home Wednesday at 1:45pm. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 until 8pm at the funeral home.
