Marvin J. Broyles, age 66 of Resaca died Friday morning February 11th in Redmond Regional Medical Center.
Marvin was born, December 15, 1944 in Trion, a son of the late Marvin Chester Broyles and Odessa Mae Dobbins Broyles. Also, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Anthony Broyles in 2008 and a brother, Gene Broyles. Marvin had lived most of his life in Gordon County and was a member and Deacon at the Sugar Valley Baptist Church.
He served Gordon County as assistant Magistrate Judge since 1988 and was elected Chief Magistrate in 2004. He served in this position until his death. He was a former Cub master of the Belwood Cub Scout Pack 53 and was an outdoor enthusiast.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Joyce Wofford Broyles of Resaca, two sons, Duane Broyles and his wife Shari of Spencer, North Carolina, Chris Broyles and his wife, Melody of Plainville; one daughter, Keisha Renee Broyles Blackmon of Calhoun; brothers, Arlin Dewayne Broyles and his wife Chinkie, Jimmy Dean Broyles and his wife Shirley, Jerry Don Broyles, and Steven Dewayne Broyles and his wife Tammy all of Calhoun; 8 grandchildren, Aaron, Andrew, Adam, Weston, Nicholas, Katelyn, Tyler, and Jonathan.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, February13 at the Sugar Valley Baptist Church with the Reverend Mitch Philips officiating. The Turning Point Quartet will have charge of music, and burial will be in the Sugar Valley Baptist Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Andrew Broyles, Weston Brown, Pat Baker, Terry Mathis, Rick Silvers, Jim Bradford, and Eddie Kuhlman. Honorary escort will consist of the Office Staff of the Magistrate Court, Pat Sutton, and other county elected officials and associates.
The Broyles family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Saturday evening at the Sugar Valley Baptist. Marvin will also lie in state at the church from 1:00 until 2:00 PM preceding the funeral service.
