Martin Vaughn, age 76, of Calhoun, GA, passed from this life on Wednesday, August 16, 2023.

 

Martin was born on February 6, 1947, in Griffin, GA, son of the late Carlton Imes Vaughn, Sr. and the late Alice Beth Martin Vaughn. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Martha Beth Vaughn McCall, his godson and grandson Christopher Deric Cook, and his nephew Anthony Martin McCall. Martin graduated from Memphis State University with a BA in Finance. He had a long career in Information Technology, retiring from SATCOM to continue a second career as Purchasing Director for Gordon County. He was an active member of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church where he served several terms on the vestry and as Senior Warden. Martin also served as the treasurer of the Harris Arts Center board of directors and acted in plays with the Calhoun Little Theater. He was a graduate of the Gordon County Leadership Program and volunteered with activities including backstage crew for Junior Miss and coaching recreational youth programs in basketball and football.

 

Martin is survived by his wife, Mary (Beth) Prewitt Vaughn; two daughters, Betty Vaughn Briones (Josh) and Ellen Vaughn Parker; five grandchildren, Annie Gamble (Tim), Fern Cook, Dani Tate, goddaughter Ella Rose Briones, and Evie Alice Briones; great grandson Philip Scott Gamble; a brother, Carlton Imes Vaughn Jr.; nieces, Mia Vaughn, and Amanda McCall.

 

Memorial Service will be held at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church at 2:00 PM on September 2, 2023. The family will receive family & friends for a drop-in Wake to celebrate Martin’s life from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Saturday, September 2 at the home.
