Martha Claire Schwartz Adams, age 81, of Calhoun, passed away Sunday May 26th in Gordon Hospital. Martha Claire was born in DeKalb County on March 15, 1932, daughter of the late John Dewey Edge and Mamie Willa Mote Edge, she was very active in her community as a volunteer for the Calhoun-Gordon County Chamber of Commerce, the American Red Cross, the Gordon County Beatification Committee, the Gordon County Historical Society as well as 27 years with the Gordon Hospital 12 of which she served as volunteer director. Martha Claire was a member of the Calhoun First Baptist Church, the Sequoyah Garden Club, the Bridge Club and a proud member of the Oothcaloga Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, William “Bill” Schwartz, her son, William “Billy” Schwartz, and brother, Eugene F. Edge. Survivors include her daughter, Patti Schwartz Roe and her husband Eric of Calhoun, one sisters, Anne Edge Fiquette and her husband Paul of West Point, two grandchildren, Ashley R. Williams and Allison Latora and her husband Greg and one great-grandchild, McKenzie Cooper, several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday May 29th at 2pm from the Calhoun First Baptist Church with Dr. Bert Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery with Randy Edge, Vince Early, Greg Lewis, Andy Benson, Cody Watson, Ethan Watson, and David Evans serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5 until 8pm and on Wednesday until 12:30 at which time Martha Claire will be taken to the church to lie in state from 1pm until the funeral hour.
