Martha Nance Chitwood

Mrs. Martha Nance Chitwood, age 95, of Resaca. Died Tuesday morning July 15th at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Martha was born at Nance’s Spring in Whitfield County, February 22, 1914. Daughter of the late Robert Charles and Bertie Stroud Nance. She was a homemaker and member of the Resaca Church of Christ. Her husband, Thurman Chitwood preceded Martha in death in June 1994. Three sisters, Ruth Wright, Mary Nations, and Lois Brown. Three brothers, J.D. Nance, Robert Nance, and Alvin Nance also precede her. Survivors include her three daughters, Nita C. Smith of Calhoun, Mescal C. Medders and her husband Kenneth “Bo” Medders of Resaca, and Joy C. Powell of Calhoun. Sister in Law, Mrs. Alvin “Alma” Nance. Eight grandchildren, Melea Tennant and her husband Dan, Jule Medders and his wife Joy, Bret Medders and his wife Shelly, India Galyean and her husband Hugh, Jeff Smith, Summer Mills and her husband Frank, Monty Powell and his wife Anna, and Eben Powell. Great grandchildren, Macaela Edwards and her husband Tim, Jesse Tennant, Cheyenne Medders, Carson Medders, Will Medders, Austin Medders, Tess Medders, Clint Smith, Lambert Smith, Jared Mills and his wife Keli, Lauren (Mills) Turbeville and her husband Jordan, Suzanne Powell, Rebakah Powell, Ava, Adrian and Selah Galyean. One great great grandchild, Silas Alexander Smith. Faithfully care for by Peggy Holland. Funeral services will be conducted Friday July 17th at 2pm from the Resaca Church of Christ. With Brother Frank Mills officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery. Her great grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5 until 8pm and on Friday until 12:30 at which time Martha will be taken to the church to lie in state until the funeral hour.
