Marsha Viola Chesnut Claus died Feb. 16, 2014 at Gordon Hospital in Calhoun, Ga. surrounded by family and friends. Born Sept. 14, 1964, Marsha was 49 years old.
A teacher by trade, Marsha loved children. She served as an elementary school teacher in Illinois from 1992 to 1994 and again at John L. Coble Elementary School (grades pre-k-8) in Calhoun, Ga. part-time from 2005-2009 and full-time from 2009- 2013. She wore many hats and served as a librarian, yearbook sponsor, and taught a variety of topics including language arts and religion. She worked as a sales clerk for the Adventist Book Center in Wisconsin from 1997-2004. She also served as a deaconess and head deaconess at the Calhoun Adventist Church.
She completed her bachelors degree from Southern Adventist University in elementary education in 1992, also completing an associate’s degree in Office Administration in 1986. In 2009 she completed a master’s of education with an emphasis in curriculum, instruction, and assessment from Walden University,
Memorial Services for Marsha will take place at the Calhoun Seventh-day Adventist Church (1411 Rome Road, SW, Calhoun, Ga.) on Saturday, March 15th at 4:00pm with Pastor Harold Cunningham officiating.
Honorary Escorts will be the teachers and staff of the Seventh Day Adventist Conference.
A lover of Gatlinburg, Alaska, penguins, and cats, Marsha is survived by her husband of 21 years, Rick Claus, son Eric Claus, both of Calhoun, Georgia; parents Norman and Rosa Chesnut of Martinsburg, West Virginia; brother Robert Chestnut of Charleston, Illinois; and sister Mary Rose Yoder of Lake Mary, Florida.
In Lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the "Worthy Student Fund" at the Coble Elementary School (450 Academy Drive, Calhoun, GA 30701).
