Marie S. Wood, of Calhoun, passed away Sunday morning December 29th at Gordon Health Care.
Marie was born June 21, 1936 in Gordon County, daughter of the late Melvin “Doc” Smith and Alma King Smith. She was a charter member of the Maranatha Baptist Church. Prior to her retirement she was a clerical assistant with the Army Corp of Engineers at Carters Dam and was a Deputy Clerk of the Gordon County Superior Court for more than 20 years. Marie was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Paul Wood.
Survivors include her three daughters; Paula Goble, Wanda Stone and her husband Ray, Sonya Thompson and her husband George; a sister, Barbara Hackney and a sister in law, Gwen Wood; six grandchildren, April Goble, Allison Davis and her husband Andrew, Trey Goble and his wife Kayla, Gavin Thompson, Autumn Thompson, and Alaina Thompson; five great-grandchildren, Milley Davis, Whit Goble, Riley Goble, Ryder Goble, and Charley Davis; and close family friends and caregiver, Victoria Davis also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday December 31st at 2pm from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. John Leatherwood officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Gordon Memorial Gardens with Ray Stone, George Thompson, Trey Goble, Andrew Davis, Gavin Thompson, and Ryder Goble serving as pallbearers.
Music will be provided by Gwen Wood, Alaina Thompson, Charley Davis, and Whit Goble.
