Marguerite Ponder Nesbitt

After two years of declining health Mrs. Marguerite Ponder Nesbitt is at peace in Heaven. On August 29, 2023 at 9:26 AM she passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.

 

Marguerite was born on January 18, 1927 in Calhoun, GA to the late Ernest Ponder and Maude Andrews Ponder. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by: her beloved husband, Bill Nesbitt; two sons, Tony Nesbitt and Doug Nesbitt; two brothers, John Terrell “Buster” Ponder and Jack Ponder; one sister, Martha Jane Ponder Stanfield; great-granddaughter, Brittni Nesbitt; and nephew, Tim Hurndon. She was a life-time resident of Gordon County, GA and was a member of Oostanaula Baptist Church.

 

Marguerite was a beautiful lady inside and out. She loved each one of her family unconditionally. She always put others first. She was a loving wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She exhibited all the fruits of the spirit. Love, joy, peace, patience, and kindness.

 

Marguerite is survived by: five sons, Terry Nesbitt and his wife Letha, Jeff Nesbitt and his wife Vanessa, Kim Nesbitt and his wife Cynthia, Dennis Nesbitt and his wife Deanna, and Dick Nesbitt and his wife Jinger; ten grandchildren, Richie Nesbitt and his wife Lynne, Cindy Butler and her husband Mark, Greg Nesbitt and his wife Karen, Dawn Charles and her husband Ralph, Kevin Nesbitt, Brooke Sims and her husband Garyn, Christina Chapman and her husband Danny, Jared Nesbitt and his wife Raven, Tiffany Nesbitt and First Lieutenant Nicholas Nesbitt; nine great-grandchildren, Emily Massingill and her husband Mitchell, Andrew Nesbitt, Allen Smeed and his wife Jessica, Brett Nesbitt, David Butler, Lona Potter and her husband Gage, Luke Sims, Arizona Nesbitt and Katherine Nesbitt; five great-great-grandchildren, Tristan Massingill, Tenley Massingill, Marleigh Smeed, Bennett Smeed and Brantley Mullins; great-nieces, Desirae Hurndon, Brandi Dutton and family, April Cantrell and family, and Dakota Hurndon and family.

 

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Gordon Health Care who took great care of Marguerite and loved on her daily.

 

Marguerite loved flowers or in lieu of flowers you may make a donation in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.

 

Funeral Services to celebration the life of Marguerite will be conducted on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 5:30 PM at Oostanaula Baptist Church with Reverend Michael Hunt officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Reverend Lamar Bearden in charge of graveside rites.

 

Pallbearers serving include: Andrew Nesbitt, David Butler, Brett Nesbitt, Luke Sims, Allen Smeed, Mitchell Massingill, Gage Potter and Jared Nesbitt.

 

The family will gather to receive friends on Thursday from 3 PM until the service hour at the church.
