Marcelle Burch McClurd

Marcelle Burch McClurd, age 89 of Calhoun, GA, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at The Fountains of Calhoun.

Marcelle was the youngest of seven children born on February 9, 1933 in Murray County, GA, daughter of the late Will and Frances Burch. In addition to her parents, Marcelle was also preceded in death by: her husband, James Sanford “Jimmy” McClurd, SR; son, James Sanford “Butch” McClurd, JR; two brothers, James Burch and Ford Burch; and four sisters, Bill Smith, Henrietta Brown, Jean Johnson, and Bettye Cook. Marcelle was a member of Belmont Baptist Church. Prior to her retirement she worked as a clerk for Southern Bell.

Marcelle is survived by: her three grandchildren, Marcy McClurd Bullard and her husband Jason, Tricia McClurd Buchanan, and Jamie McClurd and his wife Starla all of Calhoun, GA; and three great-grandchildren, Beau Bullard, Sydney Bullard, and Finley Buchanan.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 13, 2022 at 4 PM from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Reverend Matt Futch officiating. Shawn Kilgore will have charge of music. Interment will follow in Fain Cemetery.

Pallbearers serving include: Clifton Smith, Keith Smith, Mike Connally, Kip Connally, Perry Moore, Howell Cochran, and Fred Painter.

Honorary Pallbearers include: David K. Smith, Jamie McClurd, Jason Bullard, Mike Buchanan, and Darren McMichael.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 13, 2022 from 2 PM until the funeral hour at 4 PM at Thomas Funeral Home.
