Saturday, June 28, 2008 Mr. Malvin L. “M.L.” Johnson, age77 of 1180 Bellwood Rd., Calhoun, Ga. died Friday evening in Floyd Medical Center following an extended illness. M.L. was born in Gordon County on December 10, 1930 son of the late William Claude and Mattie Lou Orr Johnson and had spent his entire life here. He was a well known farmer, a member of the Calhoun First United Methodist Church, was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Korea Era , he had also served on the Gordon County Board of Education, The Board of Equalization and served as Chairman of the Library Board. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Louise Wells. Survivors include his wife Dixie Nally Johnson of Calhoun, one son Larry Johnson and his wife Kathy of Chattanooga, Tn., a daughter Judy Waters and her husband Bill of Rome, a brother (Will) Billy Johnson and his wife Betty of Calhoun, grandchildren; Sarah Johnson and Katherine Johnson both of Chattanooga, Tn., Will and Landon Waters both of Rome. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday June 30th from the Calhoun First United Methodist Church with Dr. Brian Clark officiating. Interment will follow in the Fain Cemetery. Pallbearers serving include Sam Payne, Brady Champion, Jerry Quinn, Ray Towers, Jack Dyer, Parham Hammontree and David Bailey and they are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:30 A.M. Monday. The family will receive friends at the Thomas Funeral home from 2:00 until 4:00 and 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Sunday June 29th. In addition to flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church.
