Maezell Strickland, age 97 of Calhoun, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2011 in Calhoun Health Care.
Maezell was born on September 13, 1914 in Gordon County. Daughter of the late James Thad and Ollie Parker Patterson. Maezell was a charter member of Belmont Baptist Church and the Fidellis Sunday School Class as well as the Candy Edwards Circle. She worked as a medical assistant and bookkeeper for Dr. Lang prior to her retirement. She had also worked as an assistant to Doctors Richards, Purcell and Thompson. She was a member of the Sequoyah Chapter # 286 of the Order of Eastern Star where she served as Past Worthy Matron, the Hillhouse Garden Club, and the Gordon County Historical Society. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus M. Strickland and a brother, Clyde Patterson.
Survivors include; her son, Harry R. Whitfield and his wife Linda of Calhoun. One brother, D.F. "Pat" Patterson of Destin, Fl. Two granddaughters, Pam Mills and her husband Terry of Resaca and Laura Whitfield of Marietta. Three great-granddaughters, Monica Mills, Maci Mills, and Tyler Whitfield.
Funeral Services will be conducted at Saturday December 10th at 11am from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home. With Rev. Jeff Hawkins and Dr. John Allen officiating. Jim and Treva Sellers will have charge of music. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery. Where nephews will serve as pallbearers. The Sequoyah Chapter #286 O.E.S. will serve as honorary escorts.
The family will receive friends from Friday evening from 3 until 7pm.
