Mrs. Mable Clay Phillips, age 96 of Calhoun and formerly of Esom Hill, Ga. died Saturday June 7th.at her residence following a brief illness.
She was born in Etowah County, Alabama on March 31, 1912 daughter of the late Radford and Rose Frix Clay. She had been a resident of Calhoun and Gordon county for 20 years, was a member of the Shilo Baptist Church in Esom Hill, Ga., was a letter carrier and homemaker. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years Robert Cecil “Jack”Philips on Feb. 28, 1986,two daughters; Sandra Summerville and Margaret McGill, her step-father; Daniel Franklin Gibson and two sisters; Nell Clay and Willis Jay Ellis.
Survivors include granddaughters; Jackie Summerville Brown and her husband Mike of Calhoun and Sherron Summerville Mills and her husband Steve of Watkinsville, Ga., Kelly McGill and Dixie McCormick of Birmingham, Al. great-grandchildren; Ashley and Peter Lester of Atlanta, Kristen and Phillip Gibson of Statesboro, Ga. , Erin, Michael, and Lindsey Brown of Calhoun and Tara and Andy Walker of Calhoun, and her son-in –law; Harold Summerville of Calhoun.
Graveside services will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. (EDT) from the Altoona-Walnut Grove Cemetery in Etowah County Alabama with Rev. Robert Wright officiating.
The Family will receive friends at the Thomas Funeral Home from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M. today (Sunday June 7th.).
Pallbearers serving include Justin Lindsey, Jeremy Barnes, Eric Shaw, Jared Gray, Jarrod Bunch and Collin French.
