Lonnie F. Daniel, age 77 of Calhoun, a longtime Gordon County educator passed away Thursday, February 16, 2012 in Gordon Hospital. Lonnie was born on August 17, 1934 in Riverview, Alabama; a son of the late Roland and Rosa Pascal Daniel. He was a member and Deacon of the Calhoun First Baptist Church where he served as the Sunday School Director. He also was an active member of the church choir. Lonnie was an educator for the Calhoun and Gordon County School Systems. Survivors include; his wife, Jane Daniel; one son, Alan Daniel and his wife Gina; two grandchildren, Clay and Logan Daniel all of Calhoun; two sisters, Peggy Sellers and her husband, Harold of Opelika, Alabama; Elizabeth Hudmon and her husband, Larry of Riverview, Alabama; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday February 18 at 3:00 PM at the Calhoun First Baptist Church with Dr. Bert Vaughn officiating. Barry Bryant and Sherry Chapman will have charge of music, and entombment will be in Fain Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 PM Saturday at the church preceding the service. Pallbearers are Gary Black, Harry and Sam Harwell, Mike Caldwell, Donnie Nesbitt and Jim Lay. They are asked to meet at the church at 12:45 PM Saturday. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Sycamore Bible Class; they are asked to meet at the church at 2:45 PM Saturday. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Calhoun First Baptist Church.
