Lewis F. Poston, age 80, of Calhoun. Died Monday afternoon August 31st in Gordon Hospital.
Lewis was born in Kannapolis, NC., May 24, 1929. Son of the late Clarence R. and Nola Poston. Lewis loved his family and was a devoted member of Belmont Baptist Church and the Scrap Iron Sunday School Class. He was employed by Pharr Yarns of Georgia prior to his retirement and had served as president of the Cherokee Capital Fair Association for seven years. He was preceded in death by his wife Melba J. Poston, his son Timothy L. Poston along with two brothers, Troy R. and Harry C. Poston. One sister-in-law, Edna Poston and two nephews Vernon and Greg Poston also precede him.
Survivors include his daughter; Jane P. Edwards and her husband Jerry of Calhoun. A son; Reed Davis of Smiths Station, Alabama. Five grandchildren; Tiffany Watson and her husband Shane, Tim Edwards and his wife Macaela all of Calhoun, David Davis and his wife Shanda of Alabama. Cisse Robertson of Columbus, Ga., Holly Hasty and her husband Chris of Phoenix City, Alabama. Nine great grandchildren; Lauren Maggie Watson, Kathryn Bailey Watson, Jessica Davis, Carlee Davis, Katee Leyen and her husband Chris, Ethan Robertson, Evan Robertson, Taylor Hasty, and Luke Hasty. One great-great grandchild; Trystan Leyen. Sister in laws; Ila Moss and her husband James and Emily Whaley and her husband Tom. Brother in law; James Brown along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday September 2nd at 11am in the Belmont Baptist Church. With Dr. John Allen and Rev. Jeff Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow in Gordon Memorial Gardens with Bill Coleman in charge of graveside rites. Nan Barnette and Doug Roebuck will have charge of the music. Pallbearers serving include; Billy Neal, Alfred Knight, Buck McBee, Lynn Walters, Larry Dempsey, and Jimmy Knight. Honorary escorts will be the members of the Scrap Iron Sunday School Class.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 until 8pm and on Wednesday until 9:30am at which time Lewis will be taken to the church to lie in state from 10am until the funeral hour.
