Reverend Leonard B. Brown, Sr., age 89 of Calhoun died at 5:18 PM, Friday, November 26 following an extended illness.
Leonard was born, January 23, 1921 in Floyd County, son of the late Alva Francis Brown and Minnie Ellen Henry. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marie O. Brown, a daughter, Ruth Duffek, a granddaughter, Zoe Duffek, a son in law, Gary Duffek, and several brothers and sisters.
Leonard was a retired public school teacher and had taught for many years at Tolbert School, and was a Veteran of World War II, U.S. Army. He was a retired minister in the Church of God of Prophesy and had pastored the Hood Street Church of God of Prophesy and the Rocky Face Church of God of Prophesy. Also, he was a member of the Ashwood Church of God of Prophesy.
Leonard is survived by 3 sons, Leonard Bart Brown, Jr. and Barry Brown both of Atlanta, David Brown of Reynolds, 6 daughters, Betty Chuipek of Decatur, Brenda Logan of Ellijay, Doris McLemore, Cathy Logan and Cindy Knight all of Calhoun; 18 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Monday, November 29, at the College Street Church of God with the Reverends Donald Lee and Jeff Dutton officiating. Burial will be in Chandler Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the Georgia Army National Guard and the Dalton American Legion Post 112. Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers and granddaughters will serve as honorary escort.
The body of Reverend Brown will lie in state from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm Monday at the College Street Church of God preceding the funeral. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home.
