Laverne Langley Gravitt, age 72, of Plainville, passed away Monday March 6th at the UAB Hospital in Birmingham.
Laverne was born in Floyd County, June 13, 1950, daughter of the late Freeman “Hop” Langley and Ophelia Edwards Langley. She was a graduate of Calhoun High School and prior to her retirement was an insurance representative with Ron Hall Insurance. Laverne was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Plainville Church of God of Prophecy and attended the CraneEater Community Church. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her special friend, Bill Worley.
She is survived by her son, Michael Gravitt and his wife Melanie; her grandson, Koty (pron. Cody) Gravitt and his wife Casey; one great-granddaughter, Kaisley Gravitt; brother, Ronnie Langley and his wife Denise; sister, Joan Padgett and husband Spencer. A special friend, Melissa VanHorn also survives.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday March 10th at 4pm from the Plainville Church of God of Prophecy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers serving include Frankie Langley, Steve Gravitt, Jeff Smith, Tony York, Shane Self, and Joe Ellis.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening March 9th from 4 until 7pm at the funeral home. Laverne will lie in state at the church on Friday March 10th from 3 until the funeral hour.
