Laura "Lucy" Houchins, age 83 of Plainville, Georgia, passed away Friday, March 18th in Redmond Regional Medical Center.
Lucy was born February 6, 1928 in Bartow County. Daughter of the late Warren C. Bailey and Fannie Lou Hite Bailey. She led a very active life having taught dental hygiene for the State of Georgia as well as Gordon County. Lucy was best known for owning and operating her own ceramic shop for 28 years were she was a licensed instructor. She displayed her hand made signed and dated porcelain dolls at arts and craft shows throughout Georgia until her retirement in 1995. She was also the advertising editor for the Railroad Newspaper and a member of Oothcalooga Baptist Church.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben Houchins in March 2010. A number of brothers and sisters also precede her. Survivors include; five sons; Michael Grant Houchins of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Gary Wayne Houchins of Grand Prairie, Texas, Ronnie Cannon and his wife Jane of Adairsville, Tommy Cannon and his wife Debra of Rome, and Michael Denham of Douglasville. Three daughters; Patricia Ann Spencer of Arlington, Texas, Veda Lanette Barner and her husband Kyle of Big Sky, Montana, and Paula Rayburn and her husband Derek of Chattanooga. One brother; E.M. "Bob" Bailey of Plainville; a sister in law, Bernice Bailey of Calhoun; twenty-two grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren also survive.
Memorial services will be conducted Monday March 21st at 1pm from the Oothcalooga Baptist Church in Adairsville. With Rev. Gary Hibberts and Rev. Ken Hinkley officiating. Music will be arranged by Kenny Carden and Glenda Duvall. The family will receive friends Sunday evening at the funeral home from 2 until 5pm.
In addition to flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Oothcalooga Baptist Church near Adairsville.
