Maj. Lars G. "Trey" Pierson, III age 55, of Calhoun, passed away suddenly on Saturday, November 28, 2020. Trey was born on June 13, 1965 in Stuttgart, Germany, son of Carol Acree Pierson and the late Lars Gustav Pierson, Jr. He was a member of the Calhoun First Baptist Church. Trey was a graduate of Calhoun High School Class of 1983, where he participated in both the arts and athletics playing football, wrestling, and playing the lead in several plays winning best actor for playing the lead in the Sound of Music. Trey earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from North Georgia College and State University and was commanding officer of his senior class serving as Cadet Colonel. After receiving his college degree in 1987, he began his career in the United States Army as an Infantry 2nd Lieutenant and assumed command of a rifle platoon. He held several other platoon/detachment and staff officer positions before branch transferring to Military Intelligence. He was then given a company of more than 150 soldiers to lead, train, and command. Trey served from 1987-1999 and 2001-2003. He earned the Distinguished Military Student Award, John C. Marshall Award. He was Brigade Commander, Boar's Head Brigade, Brigade Command Sergeant Major, Company First Sergeant. He attended Ranger School, Airborne School, and Air Assault School. He earned the Expert Infantry Badge, Counterintelligence and Signals Intelligence Specialist award, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal and Operation Desert Storm Service Medal. He was presently employed as an IT professional with VoestAlpine Technology. If you have attended a Calhoun High School football game over the last several years you couldn't miss Trey's presence on the field, taking picture of the players, cheerleaders, and people in the stands, always supporting his beloved alma mater. In addition to his mother, Trey is also survived by: his wife of 33 years, Monica Hutchinson Pierson of Calhoun; son, Lars G. "Duke" Pierson, IV and his wife Elizabeth of Calhoun; and daughter, Molly Pierson of Augusta. Due to Covid and the need for an open-air venue, the memorial service for Lars G. Pierson III will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. on Hal Lamb Field at Phil Reeve Stadium. All are encouraged to wear Calhoun Yellow Jacket or UGA Dawgs attire. Please enter through the North Gate off Yellow Jacket Drive. Masks and social distancing will be required to help keep our community safe.
