Mr. Lamar Taylor better known as “Pierre” of Calhoun, died Thursday December 25th. in Redmond Regional Medical Center.
Lamar was born in Chatham County, Ga. son of the late Billy Gordon Taylor and Mary Lou Allen Taylor . He attended North Point Church in Adairsville, and until his retirement was Assistant Director of the Calhoun City Recreation Department for over 20 years. Pierre was best known and remembered for his love of youth both as a coach and mentor and for the many years of working with the Christmas Toy Drives for underprivileged children. He was an avid golfer and devoted family man . He was a member of the Calhoun Elks Lodge and the American Legion. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Harry Lee Taylor in June of 2004.
Survivors include his wife Joy Brown Taylor of Calhoun, three sons; Cameron Taylor and Tracy Caylor and Courtney Taylor and his wife Wendy all of Calhoun, and Hugh Thomason and his wife Paula also of Calhoun, two daughters; Derita Davis and her husband Lt. Col. Gary Davis of Palmetta, Ga. and Gina Hibner and her husband Gus of Melbourne, Fl,. 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday December 28th. from the Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Jether Cochran and Rev. Dave Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Fain Cemetery.
Music will be provided by Paula Thomason and Donna Couch.
Pallbearers serving include Larry Thomason, Bobby Walraven, Ken Brooks, Jimmy Palmer, Larry Brown, Joey Lusk, Tony Holsomback, K.D. Wright, Billy Bearden and Bobby Miller and they are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:15 P.M. Sunday. Honorary pallbearers will be City Employees, Members of the Calhoun Elks Lodge, Dr. Tony Captain, Bud Ables and Larry House and they are asked to meet at the Church at 1:45 P.M. Sunday.
The family will receive friends at the Thomas Funeral Home from 4:00 until 9:00 P.M. on Saturday evening.
