Mrs. Karen Lee Dyer, R.N, MSN, age 80 of Calhoun, formerly of Kennesaw, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Erlanger Medical Center of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Karen was born on February 14, 1936 in Clarksburg, West Virginia to the late Kelly Smith Tingler and Kathryn Elizabeth Ferrell. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Calhoun. Karen attended Alderson and Braudus College where she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing; she later attended Georgia State University where she received her Master of Science in Nursing. She began the LPN Nursing Program for Gordon Hospital and was later a Nursing instructor at Dalton College where she taught her knowledge and skills to the next generation. Karen later served as a Flight line nurse for Lockheed Aircraft of Marietta until retirement.
She is survived by her husband, Tommy L. Dyer of Calhoun; two sons, Trent Dyer of Kennesaw and Brett Dyer and his wife Teresa of Woodstock; two daughters Susan Dyer of Dalton and Sheri McAllister and her husband Eddie of Sugar Valley; two sisters, Alice Hildreth and Marianne Tompkins both of The Villages, Florida; she is also survived by nine grandchildren, Randy Brock and his wife Angela of Dalton, Brett Swavely and his companion Kay Baldwin of Dalton, Matthew McAllister and his wife Brittany of Kennesaw, Jeremy McAllister and his wife Ashlea of Hiram, Jonathan Dyer of Macon, Stephen Dyer of Kennesaw, Maranda Dyer and Makayla Dyer of Woodstock and Elizabeth Dyer of Kennesaw and three great grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be conducted on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at 2 PM from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Dr. John Bledsoe officiating. Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 19th from 4 PM until 7 PM at Thomas Funeral Home.
