Mr. Junior Thomas age 75 of 405 Hunts Gin Rd., Calhoun, died Tuesday August 7th. in Gordon Hosptial following several months of declining health.
Mr. Thomas was born in Gordon County on May 17, 1932 a son of the late Randolph Deon Thomas Sr. and Quillie Parsons Thomas and had been a lifelong resident of Gordon County. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, was retired from Auto Body Repair operating the Thomas Body Shop and was a cattle farmer. Junior was a veteran serving with the U.S. Navy. He was a performer on the Grand Ole Opry and the T.V. Show “Hee Haw” from 1970 until 1978. He loved country music, being outdoors, horses and his Family. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers; Hazel, Troy, and Walter Lee Thomas, a step-brother; Hugh Don Davis and sisters; Earlene Allen, Lois D. Thomas and Jackie White.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years Catherine Faith Thomas, one son; Mike Thomas, daughters; Tammy Wilson and Pam Lowery and her husband Jackie. Seven Grandchildren; Dana Dyer of Perido Key, Florida, Erik and Jamie Thomas, Tamara, J.D. and Kara Wilson, and Meagan Lowery. Two Great-Grandchildren; Chance and Madilyn Dyer. Three Sisters; Mary Jo Erwin, Helen Tate and Janelle Phillips. One step-sister; Pauline Baxter, Two Brothe-in-laws; S.L. Tate and Stanton Erwin and a Sister-in-law; Pauline Davis and Gladys Thomas. Several Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday from the Chapel of the Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. David Blackwell, Rev. Jimmy Timms, Rev. Billy Thomas, Dr. Bert Vaughn and Rev. Hershel Pierce officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Methodist Cemetery.
Pallbearers serving include Sammy Phillips, Randy Erwin, Reuben Allen Jr, Eddie Thomas, Tommy White, Reed Davis, Brock Baxter and Danny Phillips. Honorary Pallbearers include; Sam Momon, Truett Moss, James Owens, Alan Holcomb, Hugh Don Bagley, Billy Black, Thomas Dodson, Sam Brookshire, A.W. French, John Canteberry, James Steel, Tootsie Kirby, J.H. Chapman, Freddie Faith, Bobby Faith, Larry Roye, Greg Weaver. and Greg Fisher and all these gentlemen are asked to meet at the Thomas Funeral Home at 1:30 P.M. Friday August 10th.
The Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. on Thursday evening .
