Joshua "Dobby” Thomas Sewell

July 17, 2003 — September 7, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our son, Joshua Thomas Sewell, who left us far too soon on September 7, 2024, at the age of 21. Josh's departure has left a void in our hearts that can never be filled. His vibrant spirit, boundless energy, and deep compassion will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Josh was a bright and talented young man who touched many lives with his kindness, creativity, and infectious enthusiasm. Born on July 17, 2003, in Atlanta, Georgia, Josh grew up with a passion for music, and computer games, and a deep love for the outdoors. He was an active and dedicated member of the Boy Scouts of America and the Order of the Arrow, where he demonstrated his commitment to leadership and service. His passion for sports was evident in his participation in ultimate frisbee, soccer, wrestling, and rock climbing. A talented musician, he played percussion in the school band, with a particular love for keyboard instruments, and was a proud member of the robotics team, competing in national competitions.

His love for Georgia Tech football was a defining aspect of his life. He cherished attending games with his family and friends, finding joy in the camaraderie of tailgating and the thrill of the game. Cooking and sharing meals were his ways of bringing people together, reflecting his generous and caring nature.

Josh was always willing to lend a hand, offering support and kindness to those around him. His warmth, enthusiasm, and readiness to help others were hallmarks of his character. Despite the joy he brought to those around him, Josh had struggles that many could not see. His family and friends remember him as a compassionate soul who often put others' needs before his own but who also faced battles that he fought in silence. His enthusiasm and dedication to service will not be forgotten.

Josh is survived by his loving parents, Muffin Harmer and Scott Sewell; his sister, Blakeney Sewell; and his grandparents, William and Patricia Sewell. He is also deeply missed by his extended family and a wide circle of friends who were touched by his warmth and generosity.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2024, from 2:00-5:00 PM at Thomas Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on October 12, 2024, at 1:00 PM at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, with a reception to follow, where we will celebrate Josh's life and the lasting impact he had on those who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Camp Rainey Mountain. Josh’s spirit will forever live on in our hearts, and we hope to honor his memory by continuing to show love and understanding to those who may be struggling silently.

He will be remembered for his laughter, service to others, his music, and the light he brought into our lives. Rest in peace, Josh. You will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
