Joseph Griffith Glasser, age 87 of Calhoun, passed away on Friday, August 31, 2012 in Gordon Health Care.
Joe was born, October 14, 1924 in Lakewood, Ohio. He was the son of Joseph Henry Glasser and Dorothy Griffith Glasser. He was an alumnus of Case Western Reserve of Cleveland, Ohio and had spent much of his professional career as an architectural illustrator and artist. He was an avid fisherman and golfer, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Calhoun.
Joe had formerly been employed by the West Side Newspaper, a family owned paper, of Cleveland, Ohio, and was the publisher of the Herald News of Port Charlotte, Florida. He was the Chairman of the Bryan Symphony of Cookville, Tennessee. He had formerly sung with London Symphony and enjoyed participating as a choir member. He was the founder of the Greater Cookville Rose Society; was a former member of the Calhoun Rotary Club; and was a Paul Harris Fellow.
Joe is survived by: his wife, Pat Collins Glasser of Calhoun; a daughter, Gwenne Hayes-Stewart and a son, Joseph Henry Glasser both of Saint Louis, Missouri; one sister, Myra Griffith Barnes of Fullerton, California; step-children, Larry Jackson, and Robin Jackson Ricotta both of West Palm Beach, Florida; step-grandchildren, Amanda Gresh of New York City, Jennifer Gresh of Rochester, New York, Kathryn Jackson of Philadelphia, Cole Jackson of Jacksonville, Florida; one grandson, Henry Griffith Hayes ; two great grandchildren, Arlo and Micky Hayes.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00pm on Thursday, September 6th from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with the Reverend Pete Ullman and Gwenne Hayes-Stewart officiating. Burial will be in the Collins family lot of Fain Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00pm on Thursday at the funeral home preceding the funeral service.
