Johnson B. DeFoor, age 84, of Calhoun passed away Friday evening January 24th at his home.
Johnson was born October 12, 1929 in Gordon County, son of the late Baxter Lee DeFoor and Jewell Inez Robbins DeFoor. He was a member of the Calhoun First Baptist Church and was retired from the United States Postal Service after 33 years of service. Johnson was a retired Colonel of the Georgia National Guard with 32 years of service and was an active member of the community where he was a member of the American Legion, and the Calhoun Elks Lodge. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack DeFoor.
Survivors include his wife Elizabeth Greeson DeFoor of Calhoun, two sons, Jere DeFoor and his wife Nancy of Crystal River, FL and Scott DeFoor and his wife Patricia of Resaca, two brothers, Tony DeFoor of Calhoun and Lloyd DeFoor of Appling, GA; one sister, Patricia Lenning of Calhoun; one granddaughter, Ashley DeFoor Crider and one great-granddaughter, Hayden Elizabeth Crider of Tampa, FL and several nieces and nephews also survives.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday January 27th at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Hibberts officiating.
Pallbearers serving include: John DeFoor, Russell DeFoor, Jack DeFoor, Drew Poarch, Chuck Poarch, Clifford Mattos, and Jeff DeFoor.
Honorary Pallbearers will be former members of the 1st Battalion 108 Armored Division.
In addition to flowers, donations may be made in honor of Johnson DeFoor to the Aidmore Children’s Home in care of Calhoun Elks Lodge: 143 Craigtown Rd NE, Calhoun, GA 30701.
The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
