Johnny Andrew Callaway, age 82, of Ranger died Saturday, July 9th in Gordon Hospital. Johnny was born September 21, 1928 in Gordon County, a son of the late Bartow A. Callaway and Sudie Jones Callaway. He was a member of the Crane Eater Church of God and for a number of years was the pianist at the Old Sugar Valley United Methodist Church. Johnny was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Honor Callaway; and his second wife, Thelma Callaway. Also he was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, Norman Lyons and Joe Callaway, Deborah Joyce, and Infant Loretta Callaway. Survivors include, four sons, Marshall Andrew Callaway of Resaca, R.L. Callaway and his wife, Shelia of Calhoun, Gordon Callaway and his wife Jessie of Dalton and William Bryson Callaway of Chatsworth. One daughter, Rachel Baggett and her husband James of Ranger. Two sisters, Cora Serritt of Calhoun and Nora Edens of Sugar Valley. Two brothers, Lohnny Callaway and his wife Mary of Dalton and P.R. Callaway and his wife Virginia of Dalton. Eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren as well as a number of nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday July 13th at 2pm from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home. With Rev. Jimmy Timms officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Sugar Valley United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers serving include, Gordon Lewis Callaway, William Martin Callaway, Gordon Leeroy Callaway Jr., Jonathan Matthew DeFoor, and Bradley Partion, David L. Arellano. Additional grandsons will serve as Honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends Monday and Tuesday evening from 4 until 8pm.
