John Henry Shellhorse, age 92, of Fairmount, passed away Saturday afternoon at his residence.
John was born September 4, 1921 in Gordon County, son of the late John Henry Shellhorse, Sr. and Emma Wilson Shellhorse. He was a active member and former church treasurer of Fairmount Church of Christ. Prior to his retirement John was employed by the City of Fairmount and had worked on road construction with Ledbetter Construction. He was always very proud to have been the construction supervisor during the construction of Carter’s Dam.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mammie Ruth Shellhorse, two brothers, Richard Shellhorse and Otis Shellhorse, five sisters, Ruth Shellhorse, Grace Martin, Sue Chastain, Betty Wood, and Joe Elrod.
Survivors include one son, Johnny Shellhorse of Calhoun; one daughter, Brenda Cina of Calhoun; two sisters, Helen Tyler of Chattanooga and Geneva Crunkleton of Atlanta; two grandchildren, Shane Shellhorse and his wife Alisyn of Oklahoma City and Ben Cronon and his wife Brook of Oklahoma City; six great-grandchildren, Meredith Thigpen and her husband Shane, Buddy Counts, Lane Shellhorse, Gracen Shellhorse, Joe Cronon, and Dylan Cronon; two great-great-grandchildren, Tripp Thigpen and Journey Thigpen.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday December 9th at 3pm from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Minister Kent Bailey officiating. Terry York will have charge of the music. Burial will follow in Johnson Cemetery.
Pallbearers serving include; Charley Boswell, Junior Holsomback, Lamar Johnson, Chris Johnson, Paul Hawkins, Ray Buttrum, Jerry DeBoard, Larry Roger, and Lane Shellhorse.
The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 3 until 8pm at the funeral home.
