John Anderson Hutcheon Russell, age 91 of Calhoun, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
John was born on May 31, 1929 in Arbroath, Scotland to the late John Anderson Hutcheon Russell and Helen Williamson. He served in the Territorial Army of Scotland. He was a member of the Cherokee Prominades, Volunteer at AdventHealth Gordon, drove a bus for Tallatoona Headstart and Coosa Valley Tech GED Program, and AARP taxes. John achieved his GED at age 72 with the second highest score. and then went on to get an Associates Degree in Microcomputers at age 76. He played the harmonica and squeezebox, started piano lessons at age 78. He was a member of the Country and Western Music Club in Rome, Singles Club in Rome, and 55+ Club at Crane Eater.
He is survived by his sons, Malcolm Russell and his significant other Patricia Platt, and Spencer Bradley and his wife Louise; daughters, Karen Russell Sanford and her significant other Mark McVey, Tracey Bradley and her significant other Anna Almendarez, Sarah Carver and her husband Larry; two sisters, Rhoda Plomer and her husband Chris, Sheila Smith and her husband Robin; two brothers, Earl Russell and his wife Jean, and Duncan Russell and his wife Rosalie; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at Crane Eater Community Church at 3:00 PM with Reverend Howard Strickland officiating. Burial will follow in Crane Eater Community Church Cemetery. Pallbearers serving are Peter Quarles, Daniel Carver, Nathaniel Morton, Zack Talley, Daniel Smallwood, Jereme Allison, Cory King, and Zane Clifton. Honorary Pallbearers are Brandon Carver, and Josh Potter.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at Thomas Funeral Home from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
