John William Reese

John William Reese, age 84 of Calhoun, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Calhoun Health Care. John was born on September 14, 1929 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late John Thomas and Fay Hall Reese. He was a member and Deacon of Calhoun First Baptist Church, the owner and operator of Calhoun Electrical and Mechanical Systems. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by grandson Jonathan Harrison. John served as Vice President of Thomas Pride Carpets in Renaix, Belgium. He was a charter member and President of the Optimist Club. He was a pilot and loved flying his Bonanza and enjoyed camaraderie with other pilots at Calhoun Airport. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. John is survived by his wife of sixty-three years Ramona Brooks Reese; two daughters Cynthia Harrison and her husband David of Stone Mountain, GA, and Mona Hall and her husband Danny of Calhoun; two granddaughters, Lisa Showalter and her husband Jeff of Roswell and Laura Hall of Alpharetta; and four great grandchildren, Hannah, Sarah, Benjamin and Claire Showalter. Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, October 18th at 2:00 PM from the Calhoun First Baptist Church with Dr. Bert Vaughn and Dr. John Bledsoe officiating. Carolyn Thompson, Rick Weaver, and Charles Zacharias will have charge of the music. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery. Pallbearers are: Paul Brooks, Ray Brooks, Greg Brooks, General Robert Brooks Jr., Michael Brooks, Kris Brooks, and Jeff Showalter. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm and Friday from 12 to 1 pm at Thomas Funeral Home.
