John " Jack" Mowry, age 76, of Sugar Valley. Died Wednesday morning September 21st at Gordon Hospital.
Jack was born April 17, 1935 in Columbus, Ohio. Son of the late John E. Mowry and Mary Zirkle Mowry. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. serving in the Korean Conflict. Jack was employed by Dow Chemical as a reactor technician prior to his retirement and was a member of the Hill City Baptist Church. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Daniel Mowry.
Survivors include his wife Lily Mowry of Sugar Valley. Six sons, Jack A. Mowry of Chatsworth, Michael Mowry of Calhoun, Gregory W. Mowry of Indianapolis, Douglas J. Mowry of Murphy, NC., Daniel E. Mowry of Calhoun, and Daniel L. Hoelke of Chattanooga. Seven daughters, Jennifer Pulliam of Calhoun, Ann James of Charleston, SC., Carol Eldridge of Charleston, SC., Laura Ramey of Birmingham, Caroline Joy Knight of Stockbridge, Elizabeth Ann Howard of McDonough, and Mary Louise Whitfield of Rockface. A sister, Neva Acton of Miamisburg, Ohio. Thirty-Three grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday September 23rd at 11am from the Hill City Baptist Church. With Rev. Dewayne White officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers serving include, Travis Smith, Rodney Goble, Mark Dooley, Brian Bailey, Steve Pulliam, Tom Pickle, and Bobby Mathis. The Adult Men's Sunday School Class will serve as honorary escorts.
Visitation for Mr. Mowry will be at the Hill City Baptist Church from 9:30 am until the funeral hour on Friday morning.
