John Henry “J.H.” Davis, age 89 of Calhoun, passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2012 in Gordon Hospital.
J.H. was born on November 17, 1922 in Floyd County, a son of the late John Wiley Davis and Julia Mae Cochran Davis. He was a member and deacon of North Broad Baptist Church. He was also a volunteer at Redmond Medical Center, the Alzheimer’s Association and “Meals on Wheels.” He was formerly employed by Echols Vending, Pepperell Mills, McBrayer Furniture, Jennings Funeral Home, and retired from Edwards Petroleum Sales. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Edith Tate Davis, his second wife, Ruby Tate Davis, a brother, Hugh Daniel Davis and two sisters, Mattie Mae Autry and Zora Belle Wright.
Survivors include: one brother, Robert Davis and his wife Carol of the Plainview Community; an “adopted” daughter, Sandra Beard Baskin and her husband Hal of Macon, nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00am on Saturday, July 14th from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with the Reverend Horace Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery. Pallbearers serving include; Roy Echols, Phil Carter, Ranford Wright, Bryan Davis, Steve Wright and Ronald Davis. The family will receive friends from 5 – 7pm on Friday, July 13th at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association in addition to flowers.
