John Thomas Childers

John Thomas Childers, age 91 of Kennesaw, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Gordon Health Care. John was born on July 15, 1923 in Hickory, NC to the late James Thomas Childers and Bertha Rosalie Lail Childers. John was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving more than 26 years, and was retired from Lockheed Aircraft. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Alice Childers; son, James Childers; brothers, Boyd Childers, Jack Childers, Bill Childers and Pat Childers; and sisters, Violet Childers Wall, Lois Childers Suits and Virginia Childers Gerner. He is survived by his wife Herstine C. Childers of Kennesaw; two sons, John Childers, Jr. and his wife Lorraine of Aston, PA and Wayne Childers and his wife Lindy of Flowery Branch, GA; two daughters, Kathy Keeling of SC and Helen Patnaude and her husband Gerald of SC; sister, Iris Childers Pickrell of Elon, NC; three sister-in-laws, Shirley Childers of Calhoun, Joyce Childers of Zion, IL and Mary Ellen Childers of NC; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, April 23rd at 4:00 PM from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Reverend Doug Roebuck and Reverend Jerry Adair officiating. Graveside Services will be held on Friday, April 24th at 3:00 PM at Carolina Memorial Gardens in North Charleston, SC. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the funeral.
