For Joan Malcomson Willis, life began on February 6, 1923, in MacKay, Queensland, Australia. She is the only daughter of the five siblings of John and Isabella Rae Malcomson. She grew up in MacKay and learned her trade as a stenographer working for the local government and the local Red Cross. During World War II, she met Harold "Hal" Richard Willis, a U.S. Air Force weatherman station in Australia. They were married July 22, 1944. Hal had to return to the United States and Joan arrived in San Francisco after the war ended. After many years of traveling and working abroad, the couple settled in Gordon County.
Joan and her husband Hal were dedicated members of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Calhoun. Joan founded the Calhoun Seventh Day Adventist Food Bank, a remarkable organization that assisted the Calhoun - Gordon County community for years.
Joan is survived by: four children, John (Barbara) Willis, Timothy Willis, Beth (Barry) Smith, and Leslie (Chris) Rogers; six grandchildren: Joel Willis, Robin Smith, Caroline Smith, Darren Fowler, Ashley Davis, and Dylon Rogers; and 21 great-grandchildren also survive.
