Mrs. Joan West, age 70 of Gordon County died at 4:40 AM, Sunday, November 29 at her residence.
She was born in Birmingham, Alabama, August 27, 1939, daughter of the late George Carl Hester and Daisy Myrtle Stevens Hester. One brother, Dr. George Carl Hester, Jr, also preceded her in death.
Joan had lived in Gordon County for over 36 years and was a member of the Faith Worship Church, and was a songwriter and musician. She had conducted ladies’s ministries in her home and was a teacher of scriptures. She was a “Passionate lover of God”.
She is survived by her husband, Del West of Gordon County; three daughters, Elizabeth Witt and her husband Russell of Cleveland, Tennessee, Teena Goble and her husband, Robert of Colleyville, Texas, Cookie Barton and her husband Robert of North Carolina; one sister, Diane Rider and her husband Sid of Dahlonega, Georgia; 14 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 2 at the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with the Reverend Anthony Lombard officiating; Diane and Sid Rider will have charge of music; and burial will be in the Haven of Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 6:00 PM, Tuesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Jeff Mills, Jason Smith, Joseph Qualman, Robert Barton, Robert Goble, and Russell Witt.
