Mrs. Jo Ray McDonald, age 89 of Calhoun, passed away Wednesday morning in Gordon Health Care following several years of declining health.
Mrs. McDonald was born in Gordon County on May 28, 1919 daughter of the late James Lewis and Lillie Sutherland Ray and had spent most of her life here. She was a member of the New Zion Baptist Church and was employed by Sears Roebuck and Co. in Atlanta for a number of years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Frank Arthur McDonald who was killed in action on Sept. 25, 1944 , brothers and sisters; Lillie B. Ray, Louise Ray Orr, Pearl McEntyre, Alton W. “Toby” Ray, Frances Weaver and John W. Ray.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law; Jimmy and Karen Carpenter McDonald of Calhoun, a brother and his wife; James B. “Bill” Ray and Floy of Calhoun, a sister-in-law; Flora Nell Ray also of Calhoun, one granddaughter; Tonya McDonald along with a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside and interment services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Friday Feb. 27th from the New Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Clifford Free officiating.
The family will receive friends at the Thomas Funeral Home from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Thursday evening.
