Jimmy Prather, age 82, of the Farmville Community, passed away Monday afternoon at Gordon Hospital.
Jimmy was born December 4, 1931 in Gordon County, son of the late Charlie Thomas Prather and Opal Clark Prather. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the United States Air Force. Jimmy was retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation and was a member of the Blackwood Springs Baptist Church. He was a lifetime member and Past-Exalted Ruler of the Calhoun Elks Lodge. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Dawn Prather and a sister, Oweta Phipps.
Survivors include his wife Jackie James Prather, one son, Tommy Prather, brothers, E.W. “Buck” Prather and his wife Shirley and Kenneth Prather and his wife Faye all of Calhoun. A special aunt, Dot Clark as well as a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday October 2nd at 2pm from the Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Hibberts and Rev. Larry Hibberts officiating. Music will be arranged by and Faye and Ron Bentley. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery with Eddie Phipps, Lynn Phipps, Kevin Phipps, Bryan Phipps, Terry Holden, and Kirk Prather serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 4 until 8pm Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
