Tuesday, January 26, 2010 Mr. Jesse David “J.D.” Anderson, age 88, one of Calhoun’s well-known businessman and community leader. Died Monday evening January 25th in Gordon Hospital. J.D. was born in Madison County, Georgia, September 10, 1921. Son of the late Jesse David and Allie Lavonia Threkeld Anderson, Sr. After graduating from the Georgia Military College in 1939. He was employed by the A&P Tea Company as assistant manager. This began his 34 years of being in the retail food business. At the start of WWII J.D. enter the United States Army Air Corp serving later with the 8th Air Force in the European Theatre. In 1945 after the war he returned to Milledgeville were he was employed in the insurance business until 1948 when he and his wife Bobbie moved to Calhoun. J.D. opened his own food store on Oothcalooga Street that many may remember as Anderson’s Food Center, which he operated until 1970 when the State Highway Department re-routed Oothcalooga Street destroying his store. He then purchased the S&H Super Market from Alton and Julian Holcomb, which he operated until his retirement in 1980. J.D. was a active member of the community even after retirement. He was a member of the Calhoun First Baptist Church were he severed as a member of the Board of Deacons and as a past Sunday School Superintendent he was also a member of the Sycamore Men’s Sunday School Class. J.D. was a Member of the Oothcalooga Masonic Lodge #154, the Echota Vann Shrine Club and the Calhoun Lion’s Club. Survivors include his wife; Amanda “Bobbie” Anderson of Calhoun. Two sons; John Anderson and David Anderson both of Calhoun. One daughter; Susan Anderson of Smyrna. One brother; William Anderson and his wife Dot of St. Augustine, Florida. Two grandsons; Benjamin and Jonathan Anderson of Calhoun. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2pm from the Calhoun First Baptist Church. With Dr. Bert Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 4 until 8pm.
