Jean Manning Lowery, age 80 of Calhoun, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2014 in Gordon Hospital.
Jean was born on October 1, 1933 in Polk County to the late Retho Sylvania Manning and Laura Jane Henderson Manning. Jean was an active member of the Calhoun First Baptist Church and attended the Mattie Lou Strain Sunday School Class. She spent her early years in Gordon County, where her father, Retho Manning ministered Echota Baptist Church. She attended Chickamauga High School, and was a world traveler. She loved her family, friends and Calhoun. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Jo Neal, Julia Norris, Jessie Elliott, Dorothy Wood, and Jimmy Allen.
She is survived by her husband, Richard F. Lowery, Sr. of Calhoun; son, Richard F. Lowery, Jr. and his wife Gail of Atlanta; two daughters, Julia Anne Anthony and her husband David of Calhoun, and Cynthia Vynette Lowery; one sister, Estine Phillips of Jonesboro, GA; three grandchildren, Hannah Lowery, Madelaine Lowery, and Laura Sims; two great-grandchildren, Ayden and Landon Bell.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Tuesday, February 4th at 11:00a.m. from Calhoun First Baptist Church with Dr. Bert Vaughn, Dr. John Bledsoe and Dr. John Barber officiating. Donnie Nesbitt, Rebecca Owen, Chet and Reva Utz will have charge of music. Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery.
Pallbearers serving will be Scott Dutton, Dean Dutton, Dennis Dutton, Jeff Neal, Ross Neal, Phil Neal, Alex Hedden and Shane Faulkner. Honorary Pallbearers serving include, Joseph Pfund, David Dick Dutton, Phillip Urda, Eddie Phillips, and Darrell Phillips.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening, February 3rd from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Thomas Funeral Home.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Mattie Lou Strain Sunday School Class at Calhoun First Baptist Church.
