Louise Bond

June 20, 1932 — March 5, 2024

Calhoun

Jean Louise (Fite) Bond passed away at the age of 91 on March 5, 2024, at her home, The Fountains, in Calhoun, Georgia.

Louise was born on June 20th, 1932. She was the only child of Jean and Warren Fite. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 61 years, Thomas Herrin Bond. She is survived by her daughter, Becky Bond Mathews and her husband William; 2 granddaughters, Helen Mathews Hartgen and her husband Jeff of Washington DC, and Susan Mathews Rutland and her husband David of Calhoun. She is also survived by 2 great-grandchildren, Catherine Louise Rutland and William Thomas Rutland also of Calhoun.

Louise, or Lala, as she was known to by her family, was a lifelong member of the Calhoun First United Methodist Church. She was the valedictorian of the Calhoun High School class of 1949 which earned her an academic scholarship to Shorter College. She later transferred to the University of Georgia. She was a loyal Dawg fan her entire life. She was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority while at UGA. Louise was also the first drum majorette of Calhoun High School's first marching band under the direction of the flamboyant Frank Baker.

Louise was artistic. She loved needlepoint, cross-stitching, and crocheting. When she was younger, she enjoyed both tennis and golf. She was an avid bridge player throughout most of her life. But mostly she loved her family and friends. She loved laughing and having fun. A friend once commented that Louise always wants to make sure that everyone around her is having a good time.

The Family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to several groups and individuals. The entire staff at the Fountains has been amazing. From the first day, she moved into her last....everyone at The Fountains made her feel loved. We could not imagine a more caring staff anywhere. Also, a special thanks to Georgia Care at Home who sent us Julie Thompson and Patricia Griffiths. These two special ladies took amazing care of Lala for the last two years of her life with great skill and dedication and with love. They were amazing; truly angels here on Earth.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, from 10 AM until 11 AM at Thomas Funeral Home.

A celebration of the life of Louise will be conducted on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at 11 AM from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Reverend Lori Ethridge officiating.
